The only reason I have an LJ account is for S_D. And I've definitely got to echo everyone's comments that S_D is responsible for me buying MANY series.

It really is unfortunate that, over the past few weeks, I've noticed that mods really have been more active on the site enforcing and clarifying the rules...

Was in a panic, google searched like a maniac and found this. glad to know I'm not the only dude feeling lost on a sea of scans_daily-less.

It got me back into comics after a decade away. If it hadn't been for s_d, I'd have been still reading the odd trades and just been overwhelmed by the amount of canon I missed.

Thanks for posting this so damn quickly. This whole sitch seems like a punch in the communal gut--I was just getting ready and raring to make my second s_d post, and this hits.

I have no idea how LJ backups work; I've heard you can download a copy of your entire journal in some format to be uploaded to another LJ site, but dunno if the same tool is available for a community. Would LJ be even kind enough to un-suspend for a day or so to let a backup like that go forward?

If we go anywhere else, it won't be to another LJ site.

I must've refreshed the page a hundred times, then dashed off to google...I just didn't know where to go! scans_daily is too awesome to disappear forever. It's like Terminator- "I'll be back".

I can't even express my shock and sadness. This community was the reason I joined LJ and why I even got an old scanner. -Sigh-

First off, thanks to the mods and all their efforts. May you win this fight!
Second, if it is because of someone bitching about copyrighted material. Do they even know how much a community like this increases sales? I have TONS of stuff, comics/books/movies that I bought because I found out about them on S_D.
Third, I want to high-five every member of S_D, even the ones I snarked at. If the comm goes down, I'll miss the fannish glee and the pointless nerd-bickering.

Thanks for making the effort in keeping S_D alive, that's REALLY appreciated. Like many before me, S_D is the reason why I got into many different comics.

I was JUST on S_D before it came down. I seriously closed the browser, went AFK for 10 minutes and came back to find the journal suspended.

I also have to echo the other commenters; I wouldn't be either of the Big Two if it weren't for s_d and the posts from passionate fans sharing with the rest of us what they love about their favourite comics.

Echoing statements that S_D actually encouraged me to buy comics, and I've posted this link in my journal. :( Thank you to the mods for being clear and informative during this very ...unfortunate time.

I'm also echoing a ban on PAD's comics. You wanna triple your comics with that attitude, buddy? Let's slash sales to 1/3rd, instead. Asshole.

I don't think I even read his stuff- he's exclusively Marvel, isn't he?- but I'll certainly do my best to publicize any boycott.

I...wow. This BITES. If it weren't for S_D, I still wouldn't be buying any comics that weren't translated from Japanese. And it's not just that it gets me into titles - I've fallen in love with characters I never would have heard of otherwise. I buy trades as often as I can afford to, but my "local" comic book store is a 45 minute walk away; if I didn't follow the comm, I wouldn't know anything about what was going on the greater DCU/MU. Not to mention all the incredible, brilliant, funny, perverted people I love getting to talk to there.

i don't know how useful this will be, but i need to say it as many times as possible in case somebody hears: i've bought more comics/GNs since i started to really follow s_d, not fewer.

Now with half of my books being canceled and no scans_daily to tell me what is good, my pull list is definitely going to shrink.

I am...so sad over this! It makes me even more appreciative of all the work that went into the comm, the mods, the posters--and thanks for this explanation post too.

I'm in a state of numb shock. I don't believe that S_D is gone. It can't be. It goes against logic.

I hope that they realize scans_daily is the best advertising money can't buy.

Keep up the good work on trying to restore the comm to it's rightful place in the internet. I'm clinging to shreds of hope and keeping my fingers crossed.

This is very depressing. It's doubly worse that the killing blow came from a creator I admired.

I was going to start buying Xfactor again after scans showed the horrible melting art period was over, but now I just don't think I can support that kind of thinking.

If we can't bring it back... well, it was wonderful while it was there, folks. Thank you for introducing me to so many amazing comics and artists and characters. Thank you especially to Bluefall, for her amazing Wonder Woman series, and to everyone who posted the old, old comics from a bygone age before the comic code tamed the industry.

I echo many people here in saying that scans_daily helped me find a lot of new and old comics I otherwise might have overlooked; and subsequently I have bought so many trade paperbacks I have run out of shelf space completely.

I really hope the community can be restored.

man. this sucks. i buy a lot of comics. A LOT. part of why i buy comics is because i have friends who buy comics and we let each other read our comics, which is about as copyrighty violating technically because i'm giving it to people that didn't pay for it. but if i couldn't talk to my friends about my comics and laugh about how lame they are or freak out when something cool happens, i wouldn't buy as many comics. comic are becoming more and more a social endeavor than the old stereotypical past time of the hermit.

i think anyone that posts here is a loyal fan that buys physical comics and more than just a person that religiously buys spiderman. sometimes i get pissed off at how negative and whiny it can be, but it's obvious that the people here are not casual readers of comics, to even find this community, you have to be into comics to a scary degree, and that necessitates buying.

to be frank, in order to keep up with the posts here, you have to really be up on your nerd game. i cannot freak out and argue with someone if i haven't read supergirl with the feverish eye of an OCD person hopped up on coke. just casually reading some scanned stuff will not cut it.

not to mention that certain companies don't have certain things traded like, young justice, most of the legion, anything that isn't from the last 5 years.... so in order to keep up with nightmares like, oh, FINAL CRISIS, where else would i go for an explanation of why superman just sang at me?

It can be negative and whiny like you said, but it also motivates people into expressing their reactions rather than just accept something. If the big 2 are so concerned about hearing from fans, they should have accept that this is one avenue from which there will be discourse.

I BOUGHT SO MUCH because of S_D, too. whatistigerbalm's posts even convinced me to bribe a Canadian to buy me 2 bande desinee -- and I don't even read French!

Yah. And F_W is mean-spirited (and rejoices in that). But they do seem to be able to say and show what they like, and that's what we may need.

i ran a community called fullscansdaily that was, well, the name gives it away - whole issues. tons of X-Factor, ex machina, Golden Age, half of Watchmen
