For all members of scans_daily: the community has been suspended for posting copyrighted material without the permission of copyright holders, which is against LiveJournal's ToS. Before you ask:

1) At this time we don't know who made the complaint. But guys, we don't want this to turn into a witch hunt.

2) No, we don't have backups, but we're looking into recovering our entries. ETA: pandanoai made a backup early this month. You'll need this to view it. acroamatica has it mirrored here.

3) skalja set up a backup comm on insanejournal some time ago. If you're in dire need of scans, go here for now. ETA: A while ago, sir_razorback set up a message board for the comm here. comics_scans is another scan comm on eljay. Their rules and culture are a bit different from ours. If you join, be sure to read the userinfo before posting. stubbleupdate has set up noscans_daily. Please join, so we can keep our community together.

4) No, this will not be the end of us. Vive les scans!

5) ETA: Since people are asking about eljay's stance on fair use, from the TOS:

LiveJournal and its designates shall have the right, but not the obligation, to remove any content that violates the TOS or is otherwise objectionable, or that infringes or is alleged to infringe intellectual property rights. You agree that you must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with, the use of any content, including any reliance on the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such content. Furthermore, LiveJournal reserves the right to limit access to your journal, if found in violation of the TOS, including without limitation the Member Conduct described below, by removing the journal and related user information from the member directory, search engine, and all other methods used in conjunction with finding LiveJournal's users.

and

[members agree not to] Upload, post or otherwise transmit any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, or other proprietary rights of any party

ETA: Guys, do me a favour and link to this post in your personal journals/blogs/whatever. I don't want people to get misinformation. I'm monitoring the comments and will be around to answer questions.

ETA: Update post here.

The mod team is looking at our options; check this space for updates.

Man, we should have been doing the Amazon linking from the beginning! That would have been a great resource, at least for the comics still in print.

I just started buying comics because of scans_daily. I was, in fact, planning on going out to pick up some comics today that I saw on scans_daily first. = (

Adding to the pile of comments, my budget has been tight for the past four years, and of the comics I did manage to pick up, 80% of them were picked up because of the exposure they got in scans daily.

Wow, this sucks. The scans_daily community was basically free advertising for comics, plus our own snarky comments. It's the reason I got back into western comics besides Spiderman in the first place. I'm now planning to start writing an epic-length DCAU fanfiction in the near future. And it's the only reason I've even heard of Marvel Adventures: Avengers, which I'm going to have to special order into my local bookstore, so that I can buy the entire series one volume at a time as I have the extra money to spare (as I've been planning to do for months, but haven't had the extra time to do because of classes).

Can someone with a paid account set up a feed of http://asylums.insanejournal.com/scans_daily/? It might make it easier to keep the community together -- I know I always have a hard time making a habit of checking old faves once they move to new sites.

I have a paid account--how does one set up a feed? I haven't the foggiest.

First of all, I'd like to thank Schmevil for letting us know what happened, and to thank all of the mods for the hard work they put into the community. Like many people here, scans_daily got me back into comics after a long hiatus. Ironically, I found out that PAD was writing X-Factor characters again through the comm; I think Madrox is the first thing I actually ran out and bought. I'm furious and saddened that this has happened, and appalled at the shortsightedness of _some_ members of the comics community (and it is a community; it's too small to be anything else). Needless to say that PAD won't get any more of my business. I will, however, read his books in store on Wednesday -- widely disseminated text-spoilers are still spoilers, after all.

In case anyone wants to read PAD's response, it's on his website now:

http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/index.html

Hmmm... but Gail Simone was a regular commenter on posts about her work. Which makes me disinclined to believe PAD.

Also, he's blaming *Photobucket*? I know Photobucket fries individual accounts for copyright violations, but would they have gone to LJ? I'm doubtful in the extreme about that.

We could... I don't know, move to one of those sites like Facebook or something and set up a group there as well. |:

All in the name of preserving the community.

...I'm crushed. This is just a day of comic-y disappointment. Now I'm kinda dreading what the lcs gathering tonight'll be like.

Gah, this community was about so much more than scans of issues. The commentary, reviews, hilarity...heck, the Superdictionary tag and El Dragon's running backstory got me through some rough times.

I hope we get it back somehow. And I guess I won't be picking up X-factor, despite rec's. Thanks, PAD, I'll go read it at Barnes and Noble in the trades if I feel so compelled.

I would never have discovered my love for Blue and Gold if it hadn't been for this comm.

I am very sorry to hear about this.

I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say: that is VERY much appreciated.

*seethe*

You must be KIDDING me. If they're going to suspend S_D for posting copyrighted material, they're going to have to ban, oh, every fandom community.

Didn't they do that already? I seem to recall something about a protest... Strikeout 2008?

Just woke up, rolled over in bed and went to get my daily dose from the s_d community.
Then I find out this happened.

Next thing I know I find myself possessed by Orange and Red Lantern rings

I found out about it last night, and that was still the first thing I tried to do this morning. Then I remembered. :/

I noticed the link to the backups, but I have a Mac so I can't download LJArchive. Is there any way for Mac users to get a hold of this? Thanks!

Well, shit.

Figures, the scans I can get easily but I loved the pimping of weird stuff and the humor. Any chance it's just temporary?

(Off to read the comments.)
